John Nagridge

If you drive by a Royal Oak park or neighborhood street and see a man with a paint-stained white hat in front of an easel, chances are it’s plein air artist and knife oil painter, John Nagridge.
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wayne State University, his drawings, etchings, woodcuts and paintings have been exhibited in various metro Detroit galleries and venues including the HAWK Community Center, Farmington Hills City Hall, the Honeycomb Gallery, the Art & Faith Galleria, Royal Oak City Art Walk, the Ukrainian American Archives and Museum, Hatch Art Gallery, Michigan by the Bottle, and the Detroit Institute of Arts. His work has won awards at Alma College, the Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, the Sylvania Plein Air Paint Fest, and the Royal Oak Parks and Recreation Centennial Art Contest.
He is a member of the Michigan Plein Air Painters and the South Oakland Art Association, and teaches acrylic painting for the Farmington Hills Special Services at the HAWK Community Center. He especially enjoys painting plein air in oil with his painting knives. He lives in Royal Oak with his wife, Tammie, and their two cats, Neko and Athena.
